How Members & roles think
Access is answered in two layers. Content roles — Viewer, Contributor, Editor, Content Manager, and an explicit No Access that locks a folder shut — decide what someone can do with content, and cascade down folders so one assignment covers a whole subtree. System roles decide brand-wide abilities, a member can hold several at once, and a whole group can be granted a role in one move.
People arrive the way you choose: invitations (with an expiry date for contractors and agencies), a share from any teammate that becomes an invitation — landing the newcomer on exactly what was shared — an open door, or request-to-join, with requests from your own email domain approved automatically. Ownership can be transferred, members can be paused without being removed, and removed members stay on record, because history is always on.
